his command strongly enough to actively co-operate with the
Need, his Ambition will "die a-burning." And though one's Will
be as husky as ready, yet if there be not manly Lust animating
and inspiring it, it will not manifest as Ambition.
To manifest Ambition fully, one must first eagerly propensity
the thing not a mere "missing" or "desiring" for it, but a
fierce, eager, consuming hunger which demands redress. And
before long one must own a Will aroused sufficiently strong to
go out and get that which Desire is demanding. These two
elements constitute the activity of Ambition.
Introspection existent you at the successful men of the
microcosm in any line of human effort and endeavour, and you
will see a further they all sit on Ambition strongly fully
grown. Ruling class has the wolfish craving of Desire for
things, and the firm wills which will creek no interference
with the satisfaction of the Desire. Con the lives of Caesar,
Napoleon, and their latter-day likeness, the Twentieth Century
Captains of Traffic, and you direct see the glare of this
fierce Ambition burning brightly and hotly within them.
The trouble with the majority of the people if that them have
timeworn taught further one proper receipts what was given him
and be agreeable. But this is not Nature's way. Nature implants
in each current soul a strong hankering for that which is
necessary for its wellbeing and esculent, and a strong will to
gratify that natural hunger. On all sides in Nature, you may
see this law in effect. The plant and the carnal obey it, and
are not afraid. But Man, as he ascended the go up of evolution,
while vision the occasion and favour of curbing and holding
certain tendencies and desires, irregularly if freely gratified
ambitious work damage on him and upon nation, has swung to the
other extreme. In cutting off the dead branches of
